Ravelry Aussie Swap #3

Posted on July 18th, 2008 in Knitting Fun, Swaps & Games by deb

I joined in the Ravelry Australian Knitters Group Swap #3 and today i posted my parcel off to my partner.

The swap was titled “We’ve got you Covered” and invited participants to make either something to keep warm. This could be an item for warming the body such as scarf, gloves, socks or hats or it could be a object covering such as a mug warmer, ipod cover or hot water bottle cover. We were only limited by our imaginations ~ not really, we were guided by our partners who we were matched up with by the swap co-ordinators.

My partner was knitness and i made for her some fingerless mitts in her favourite colours of black and red. As well as a cosy for her ipod!

Also added some extra goodies; some sock yarn, chamomile tea and yummy chocolates hidden to surprise her. I am hoping that the mitts will fit her as they were a snug fit on me!!

Imagine my surprise when posting my parcel, I actually received a parcel from my partner!! I couldn’t wait to see what i had been sent so i opened it right then and there in the car.

I was so lucky to receive the most gorgeous items. A beautiful crocheted hat in two tones of purple (one of my favourite colours), a bainbridge neck scarf in a lovely olive green and a pair of crocheted mitts with hand embroidered leaves and flowers on them. They are so special.

In addition to this there was a pair of mitts knitted especially for Miss Meg! She is loving these swaps as often people are so generous to include something extra for her.

Pictures coming soon :)

Ravelers’ Stitched Up

Posted on June 21st, 2008 in For the love of Yarn & Fibre by deb

Well today Meg and i drove to Wangaratta for the Stitched Up Festival for a get together with some other “Ravelers”.

These are women I have “met”on-line as we are all members of the North East Yarn Lovers group on Ravelry. In this forum we arranged a meet-up at the festival for coffee, cake and kn

itting. So we had our WWKIP day a week later than the official date!!

Knitting and Knattering!

Most of us paid a visit to Country Spinners outlet (where we added to our growing stashes) prior to meeting at Scribbler’s cafe. All armed with our knitting projects we sat very contented knitting with friends, rather than alone, which many of us do in our country locations. Talking about our homes, families, knitting, dyeing, children and more. It was very relaxing. One of our group had travelled from Narrandera which was an effort i felt deemed prize worthy!

Meg was elated as Rachel had brought along her two daughters, who were similar ages to her. The girls instantly formed friendships and enjoyed playing chess, taking photos, as well as knitting at the cafe.

After warming ourselves with coffee and cake or scones. We headed over to pop in at Sackville and Lane where more stash adding took place! I also purchased a copy of Yarn Magazine Issue 8 which i had been hunting for.

Then out to the Airport to wander the exhibition. I was thrilled to see that i had won first prize for my hand knitted socks which i entered. My prize was a $60 voucher from Country Spinners, looks like more stash adding ahead. The exhibition was lovely and certainly inspiring, we are already planning next years entries. While there, we were able to sit for awhile and help knit pieces for the World’s Longest Scarf. This is a Guiness World record attempt. The cut off date is July 31st, so there is still time if you want to knit a length to contribute.

It really was a wonderful day and one which i think will become an annual event!

Visit to Purl’s Palace Daylesford/Hanging Rock

Posted on June 8th, 2008 in Family, Knitting Fun, Swaps & Games by deb

Finally, I made it ~ I am a member of Purl’s Princesses on Ravelry, a group of people who have visited or are intereste in the beautiful store in Daylesford called Purl’s Palace.

It has been on my “places to visit list” for ages. Being a long weekend in Victoria, I convinced my hubby that we should take a day trip somewhere? What about Daylesford, I suggested….Hint! Hint!

Without too much convincing we set off on our day out, the sun was shining, we had some great music and an esky packed with snacks and drinks. Meg had a book to read on the way, and of course placing myself in the passenger seat, i had my knitting on my lap!

It had been a very long time since either Steve or I had driven over this way, so we really enjoyed the trip. We ended up stopping at Picnic at Hanging Rock, which i had never been too before. We climbed about half way up the rock and explored, Meg absolutely loved it and we think we will visit again with Steve’s kids too in the holidays.

Then we headed onto Daylesford, oh my it was so busy, there were people everywhere! We went straight to Purl’s Palace and had the pleasure of meeting Zoe. So many beautiful things in the shop, i just couldn’t decide what to buy?

In the end i picked up some Noro Silk Garden, and some gorgeous japanese fabric to inspire my quilt (have decided to make my own heirloom quilt~ another project?) and a pattern for a knitted vest that was made and on a model in the store, actually designed by Zoe!
